Responsibilities
To buy and plan a range of product that will enable the department to achieve set sales plans, intake margins, planned markdowns and overall gross profit.
Buy and Plan Merchandise
- Achieve budgeted sales results
- Meet gross profit targets
- Review sales, markdowns and key item plans weekly with Merchandise Planner
- Effective analysis of range planning and forecasting, make appropriate recommendations based on forward fashion trends
- Manage merchandise plans and key item plans and review with Merchandise Planner
- Ensure appropriate stock quantities are available to support advertising and windows
- Meet delivery deadlines and communicate issues to Buying Manager and Merchandise Planner
- Prepare monthly department SWOT analysis
Product Development
- Demonstrate an understanding of fashion, forecast fashion trends and review overseas trends within the season guidelines.
- Demonstrate ability to create and design all styles from fabric and trim design/ sourcing, print development from initial design package through to approval of shipping and sealer samples
- Attend weekly meeting and review storyboards with Buying Manager
- Conduct competitor analysis
- Provide quality product to meet brand guidelines
- Initiate and select fashion right product for all Branding and Marketing events
Maintain and develop effective supplier relationships
- Ensure negotiations are entered into to maintain win/win outcomes
- Brief suppliers effectively on range direction (colour palettes, etc.)
- Conduct and review supplier performance at end of each season
- Communicate style performance on a weekly basis.
Maintain effective communication with all other departments
- Communicate on any issues that may affect windows, advertising and visual merchandising
- Present seasonal product range to National Sales Teams
- Visit stores weekly to obtain feedback and report to Buying and Planning Managers
Quality Assurance
- Demonstrate a complete understanding of quality assurance procedures
- Demonstrate an understanding of garment construction, fabric performance and fit for the customer
- Monitor and respond to quality issues and take appropriate action
- All new suppliers to complete a quality Audit before orders are placed
- Seek advice and communicate with QA Manager on all quality issues and fit
Recruitment, training, and development of staff
- Always provide leadership in the work place, influencing individuals and teams positively
- Develop team commitment and co-operation and encourage individual and team development
